How to integrate 3D animations in PowerPoint

You probably know about animated GIFs on Microsoft Teams and social media platforms that we encounter daily. These small animated elements are often used in text to emphasize a point or add a humorous effect to a conversation.

Did you know that similar effects are available in the Microsoft Office suite tools such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, allowing you to add animated 3D objects?

In this article, we'll explore how to add a 3D animation to one of the slides in Microsoft PowerPoint.

Please note that this option is only available in the local version of PowerPoint on your computer. However, if the animation is inserted into one of your local PowerPoint presentations but opened in PowerPoint Online, the animation will work as expected.

1. How to insert a 3D graphic in PowerPoint

Insert a 3D model In the "Insert" tab on the navigation ribbon, click on "3D Models" and then "From a File".

A pop-up will appear.

N.B: Categories marked with a running person icon indicate 3D images with pre-defined animation scenes, suggesting they are animated graphics categories.

Select a model and click on "Insert".

Once this is done, your 3D graphic will be inserted into your slide, and you can see it animate by default.

N.B: To stop the animation, a small Play/Pause button will appear on the animation

2. Modify the 3D graphic

To choose different options for your 3D animation, when you select the animation, a "3D Model" pane will appear in the feature ribbon, allowing you to choose various effects such as "Scene" or the view of your animation:

To adjust the display of your 3D model, a logo will be available on your 3D image:

You can click on it and, while holding, change the position.

N.B: The size of the 3D animation can be adjusted just like an image or video. Select it, then drag a corner handle to resize, or press the Delete key to remove the animation.
